Sorry to hear about the plant closing. I used to work there and was thinking about returning there to retire. Currently in Flint Truck and Bus. Its a good place to work but the cost of living is higher than OKC. Best of luck.

I worked at OKC from 1978 to 1985 as an electrician in the body shop. Transfered to Ft. Wayne Truck & Bus and am now retired and living in Altus, OK. I am very sorry to hear of the closing of the OKC plant. I worked with a lot of very nice people there, OKC was the best place that I ever worked. It is a shame that GM never saw the light and started making cars and trucks that stood out from the competition like it was back in the 50's and 60's.
Good luck to all at OKC Assembly.

I am sitting here at the pc at 4:52AM CST. I can't sleep for just worrying about what will happen with our future now that my husband is losing his job at the OKC GM plant. I am PO'd and afraid at the same time. We were preparing for my husband's retirement in three years...not now, and not with a few weeks or months notice. I blame this on both GM and Bush. We have a rotten economy that Bush cares and does nothing about, and we have a GM CEO who doesn't know how to run a company. They keep building a vehicle that isn't selling. And it's the hardest workers for GM that pay the price! I say GM needs to compensate with a year's salary as an incentive for early retirement. They can well afford it!! Forgive me for my anger, but I just feel like a whore on a street corner. Wham, bam, thank you mam! Thank God there is a union to help in times like this. God bless all the workers and I pray everything will work out for you all. Chris L.

My thoughts and "prayers" are with all of my friends and family back home in OKC GM! Who would have ever thought it would have come to this? I also worry about the impact on non-GM workers who will now be out-of-work because of the closeing! It's not bad liveing here in Kansas City! We have a great product and what seems like a future with GM here! If you get the chance to relocate here or have questions about Fairfax Assembly please send me an e-mail! Again my prayers are for my Brothers and Sisters not only in OKC but (all) the GM plants taken up in this vary depressing announcement! May God be with you: Joel

As a former union employee of the OKC plant I wish you all the best. I am currently at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee, which is also seeing a reduction of a product line. I may not be employed here much longer also. I was on second shift in OkC and transferred to Framingham, Ma, in 1986 along with 40+ others. I came back to OKC in 1989 and spent most of my time in the JOBS Bank. I went to SHA in 1993 and continue to buy GM union made vehicles. As a union man I feel it is my God given duty to buy Union made vehicles. We have only ourselves to look at. Good luck.

Sorry to hear your plant is slated for closing. I wish it were not true.
Having lost a job in 2003, a result of the company being sold and relocated to another state, I know how it feels.
I am the proud owner of a 2004 GMC Envoy XL that was made in your plant, and I can say I am happy I bought GM, so much so, I also bought my daughter a Chevy Cobalt.
Good luck in the future.

Hello Brothers and Sisters of Local 1999. Enjoyed visiting your web site and all the information that is public to the membership. One thing I didn't see was if there was a Chaplain in the plant, hope so for the need is there. I'm Chaplain here at my plant and there are so many people hurting with the world situation as it is today. Very good job on the web site. UAW Local 1219 LEP. By the way this is my wife's web site that we work together on.

As a 28 year member of UAW Local 1895 don't feel alone in your fight with the powers that be. I'm stuck in this Visteon hell-hole, still under Ford, but it is absolutely insane the way Visteon runs things. And they wonder why they lost 1.3 billion last year? Run by a bunch of Morons. That's why!But the CEO of Visteon got a cool Million bucks for a bonus! Sound familiar? Keep the faith Brothers and sisters.

I was just being nosey about your website. I work for UAW Local 1219-Ford in Lima, Ohio. We are going to try to get our union to create a website. You all have done a great job with yours-I hope it will help morale and communication in our plant!!By the way from what I've read-sounds like GM runs about the same way as Ford. We have similar issues all the time with salary!

Hello to all the Brothers & Sisters of Local 1999. I sincerely hope everyone's life is pretty much back to normal after the destruction of last years storm. I would like to let everyone know that at times it is fairly difficult to get our side of the story published anywhere. I do not understand why the general public thinks UAW, members are millionaires! My wife and I marvel at this fact everytime we are out and someone asks "who do you work for". The second they here GM, all hell breaks loose."No wonder new cars cost so much money, you are union aren't you"?
Well, I just became a little sick and tired of all this misinformation put out by you know who, yep are friend the General. The Detroit Free Press, (www.detnews.com) has excellent articles on our industry and related news.I have repeatedly read articles submitted by people in the auto-talk section of the paper related to our wage and benefit package.Anyway I thougt that it was time our side of the story was published.
Somehow, I managed to constuct a letter that was posted at theire web-site for those naysayers who think we are millionaires! I sincerely hope that the public can see us as working class people trying to raise our families and trying to live with dignity. For to long we have been villified as greedy uninonists responsible for the demise of an industry, our own! Now, that is just beyond stupid.
If you are interested check it out. From all of us here in NJ, have a safe Easter/Passover. Solidarity will always save us!
Respectfully,
A.M. Perrucci
